For the second consecutive year Virginia is #1 in Pollina Corporate Real Estate Inc.’s top 10 list of "states that serve as a model for the rest of the country in job retention and creation." Virginia also occupied the top spot in the rankings in 2003, 2007 and 2009.

CNN Money announced the top 25 localities in its “Where the Jobs Are” list. Prince William County climbed from number 23 last year to number 17 on the current list with a job growth rate of 32% from 2000–2009. In addition to the job growth rate, counties had to have an unemployment rate below the national average. Also noted was Dale City’s consideration in CNN Money’s “Best Places to Live.” Dale City was acknowledged for its job growth rate of 13.13% from 2000-2009, and for its population growth during that same period.

Cutting edge science and major health research breakthroughs continue to emerge from George Mason University’s Life Sciences Campus in Prince William County, Virginia. Mason researchers investigating how the bacterium Francisella tularensis survives and thrives in the environment recently announced that they have determined how this disease causing bacteria survives in the wilderness.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors and The Wartime Museum Board of Trustees today announced that the future national museum will be located on a 70-acre site near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Dale Boulevard.  The Hylton Family of Prince William County donated the site for The Wartime Museum.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) announced the acceptance of a Manassas company, Mediatech, Inc., into its two-year Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) program. Launched in January 2002, the program assists exporters in the Commonwealth that have firmly established domestic operations and are committed to international exporting as an expansion strategy.

The United States Department of Energy selected the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative for a $5 million smart grid investment grant. NOVEC received notice from DOE on Oct. 27, 2009 ― the same day President Obama announced in Arcadia, Florida, that the federal government would award grants to 100 electric utilities and industries totaling $3.4 billion for technology to modernize the nation's power grid.
